Costs can vary depending on the certificate or rating you’re pursuing, the type of aircraft you fly, and the amount of instruction required.
Typically, private pilot training costs between $8,000 and $12,000, while endorsements or ratings such as tailwheel or instrument can range from $1,500 to $4,000.
Yes, there are minimum age requirements for different pilot certificates and endorsements. To solo an aircraft as a student pilot, you must be at least 16 years old. For a Private Pilot Certificate, the minimum age is 17. Other certifications, such as a Commercial Pilot License, require you to be at least 18 years old.
If you’re pursuing a specialized endorsement like a tailwheel endorsement or an instrument rating, you must already hold a student pilot certificate or higher.
Yes, all students and renters are required to sign a liability waiver before flying with us. This is a standard practice in aviation to ensure that all parties understand the risks associated with flying and acknowledge their responsibility as participants. Your safety is our top priority, and the waiver helps us maintain clear communication about potential risks and responsibilities.
When you start training with Hogan Flying Service, you can work towards a variety of pilot certificates and ratings, depending on your goals. Most students begin with the Private Pilot Certificate, which allows you to fly solo or with passengers under visual flight rules (VFR).
From there, you can pursue additional ratings such as:
Instrument Rating: Enhances your flying skills by allowing you to navigate and fly in a wider range of weather conditions using instruments.
Commercial Pilot Certificate: Opens up career opportunities in aviation, allowing you to be compensated for your flying services.
Flight Instructor Certificate (CFI): Gives you the qualifications to teach others how to fly and share your passion for aviation.
Your instructor will work with you to develop a personalized training plan that aligns with your aspirations and ensures you meet the necessary requirements for your chosen path.
The time it takes to earn each pilot certificate or rating can vary based on several factors, including your availability, previous experience, and how quickly you progress through the training. Here’s a general overview:
Private Pilot Certificate: Typically takes about 3 to 6 months to complete, depending on how frequently you fly and your ability to grasp the material. Most students complete around 40 hours of flight time, with a mix of dual instruction and solo flying.
Instrument Rating: Generally requires an additional 2 to 4 months of training, which includes at least 40 hours of instrument flight time. This rating can often be pursued alongside your private pilot training.
Commercial Pilot Certificate: Expect to spend about 6 to 12 months earning your commercial rating. You’ll need a minimum of 250 total flight hours, including specific hours in various flight operations.
Flight Instructor Certificate (CFI): Earning your CFI typically takes about 2 to 4 months, depending on your existing experience and how quickly you can pass the necessary exams and practical tests.
Tailwheel Endorsement: This usually requires around 5 to 10 flight hours, which can be accomplished in a matter of weeks if you fly regularly.
Your instructor will help you set realistic timelines based on your goals and availability, ensuring you stay on track throughout your training journey.
